Mima stands on 5,000 years of wisdom from countless teachers, masters, and seekers. This page is our public thank-you.

The Tradition

Bazi (八字), also known as the Four Pillars of Destiny, originated during the Tang Dynasty (618–907 AD) and was systematized in the Song Dynasty (960–1279 AD). The system has been continuously studied, refined, and transmitted by masters across China and the global Chinese diaspora.

Classical Sources (Public Domain)

Our foundational references include classical Chinese texts in the public domain:

  • 《三命通会》 San Ming Tong Hui — Ming Dynasty compendium
  • 《滴天髓》 Di Tian Sui — classical Bazi text
  • 《渊海子平》 Yuan Hai Zi Ping — Song Dynasty foundational text
  • 《穷通宝鉴》 Qiong Tong Bao Jian — seasonal interpretation text

Our Approach

Mima's content is original work:

  • Calculation logic is based on the public-domain Bazi system
  • English interpretations are generated by AI with original prompts crafted by our team
  • Voice and framing are intentionally Gen Z and culturally translated for diaspora youth

If you want to study Bazi seriously and traditionally, we encourage seeking out qualified teachers in the tradition.

Open Source Software

Mima is built on the shoulders of open-source giants: Next.js, TypeScript, React, TailwindCSS, shadcn/ui, Framer Motion, Supabase, Zod, Vitest, and thousands of indirect dependencies. Thank you.

AI Models

We use AI services including DeepSeek and OpenAI for content generation. Birth chart data sent to these services is anonymized.

Cultural Acknowledgment

Mima is built by people of Chinese descent in the diaspora, for a generation reclaiming connection to ancestral wisdom.

We acknowledge that:

  • This knowledge is not ours alone — it belongs to all who came before
  • We are a doorway, not the destination
  • For deep study, please find a teacher in the tradition
  • Bazi is sacred to many; we approach it with respect
